WEEK IN REVIEW

CULTURE

  1. The Ludington Area Center for the Arts (LACA) will again host the LACA Summer Concert Series Wednesday evening’s June 23 through Sept. 1 in downtown Ludington’s Waterfront Park. These FREE community concerts feature provide audiences with a pleasant mix of Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop R&B and showtunes performed by international touring artists. While the concerts are free to attend and open to the public, putting on the series is not free to the art center. LACA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that relies on monetary donations to help fund its events and programs. Community members and area business interested in supporting the LACA Summer Concert Series are asked to send their pledges to: LACA Summer Concert Series, 107 S. Harrison St., Ludington MI 49431, by calling LACA at 231-845-2787 or online at https://ludingtonartscenter.square.site/laca-summer. Those in attendance will be asked to respect other’s spaces, make an effort to social distance and consider wearing a face covering. Waterfront Park is located at 391 S. Williams St. in downtown Ludington.
  2. LACA announced that Manistee area artist Carol Marshall will host a ‘Memories of Me’ art quilt wall hanging workshop at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts (LACA) Friday and Saturday, June 4-5. They also added an art journaling workshop with Helen Kleczynski on June 3.
  3. AFFEW put up a new cigarette butt recycling station outside LACA.
  4. SANDCASTLES had a new sign installed and they hoisted the flag (thanks to Bruce Mitchell) and is gearing up to open June 1st. If you’d like to support their re-opening and help them get back on their feet after a year of quarantine, you can donate here.
  5. At the LIBRARY, Miss Sue and Miss Emily are still posting story time and baby time videos. Check their FB page to watch.

SHOPPING

  1. MARIELLEN’S HALLMARK showed us the Insect Shield Scarf that they have in the store. It’s a lightweight scarf that repels mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers,  and no-see-ums. It’s odorless and lasts 70 launderings!
  2. PURPLE MONKEY introduced the unisex baby sunsuit and these cute Chewable Charm star stacking teethers that will be arriving in the store soon.
  3. ABC KIDZ is running a bag sale on remaining clearance items. Fill a bag for $10.
  4. EVEREST ATHLEISURE has new Lululemon bags in stock.
  5. SNYDER’S SHOES highlighted their Keen work boot stock as well as these new slip-ons from OluKai.
  6. GLIKS opened last Friday and posted a “6 Staples You Need For Summer” on their blog. We’ll be chatting with Nikole about Gliks during the live show and podcast.
  7. MY SISTER’S CLOSET posted this gorgeous Mother-of-the-Bride dress! If it’s still there (size 6!), it’s a steal at $75. Follow their page to see more one-of-a-kind finds.
  8. SWEET PEACH has restocked the EZPZ feeding sets.
  9. BACKSTAGE HOBBIES & GAMES is looking for help naming their new crew member.
  10. SPINDRIFT CYCLESPORTS showed off their bike seat options. A good fit is important and they can help you find a comfortable ride.
  11. EVERGREEN NATURAL FOODS MARKET gets weekly shipments of organic produce. Stop in often to see the fresh selections. And check out these Good Karma flags, hand painted in Indonesia.
  12. NAUTICAL YARN shared some of the new spring colors from Rowan and Berroco. They like raspberry and coral.
  13. GIVING TREE GARDEN CENTER showed us some fairy garden items and a tease of some beautifully colored pots.
  14. AVENUE’S END MINI MALL is showing off products being stocked and these pillows caught my eye.

  1. Have you tried the pizza at LUDINGTON PUB yet?
  2. JAMESPORT is now selling six-packs of your choice of their handcrafted brews. Six 16oz cans for $25 or six 12oz cans for $20.
  3. LUDINGTON BAY‘s 4th Anniversary Party & Fundraiser started May 12 and runs through May 15. As part of the celebration, they will be offering up these smoked plates: SMOKED BRISKET PLATE – Tender house smoked Michigan Craft Beef Brisket with your choice of Brown Sugar BBQ or Carolina BBQ Sauce. Served with warm bread roll, coleslaw and fries for $18. RIB SPECIAL – Tender house Smoked Ribs covered in your choice of Brown Sugar BBQ or Carolina BBQ Sauce. Served with coleslaw and mac and cheese. Full rack $24 // Half Rack $16.
  4. TABLE 14 drool inducing pic of the week is the orange marmalade whitefish that they featured last weekend.
  5. BLU MOON is featuring Tempura Asparagus with Miso dipping sauce.
  6. SANDBAR has a new service area out front.
  7. CHEF JOHN’S reminded us about their Bacon Grilled Cheese with roasted red peppers and avocado spread. They also featured a French toast breakfast sandwich with egg, Colby, bacon and strawberry jam.
  8. BOOK MARK opened the lounge. Occupancy limits and contact tracing will apply. Time limits may also apply. Masks are required except when seated. No beverages can be consumed outside of the lounge area inside the store.
  9. CAFE 106 is closed today for maintenance. They will re-open Friday at 8am.
  10. KEEPER’S FISH SHACK is working on their pallet wall.

SERVICE

  1. WEST SHORE BANK and LUDINGTON YACHT SALES are sponsors of the new Great Lakes Backcountry podcast. We mentioned their interview with Ludington natives and 1993 French Open winners, Luke & Murphy Jensen. As part of the launch, they are planning a Shaping Up The Shoreline event with a beach cleanup day in Ludington on Saturday, May 22 from 1-3pm.
  2. M. WELLNESS told us a bit about TRX training, which they offer at 4:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They also have a group walk schedule up for the rest.
  3. ADORA STUDIO OF HAIR posted a “How To Curl Your Hair” video.
  4. KRAVE FROZEN YOGURT doesn’t open downtown until May 26th, but you can find them at the 10-Spot. WMOM interviewed Jen from Krave, as well as Josiah from Lakeside Weiner Wagon on the air this week.
  5. NORTHSTAR FITNESS is offering a Release and Restore class on Thursdays at 5:45pm with Roxanne. If you are sore from working out, dealing with an injury, or just looking to unwind from a long week, this is the perfect class!

    The ‘West Michigan High School Band and Choir Showcase’ will include performances by the Ludington High School Choir, the Ludington High School Band, the Mason County Eastern Band, the Manistee Catholic Central High School Band, the Manistee High School Band, the Pentwater High School Band & Jazz Band, and the Shelby High School Band.
    The showcase will premier on the LACA website, www.ludingtonartscenter.org, Tuesday evening, May 18 at 6 p.m. The video will then be available to be viewed at any time after it goes live.
